Many families who join EDventures
are pleased to realize they love being deeply involved in their child's education. The experience can be challenging but extremely rewarding, too.
The EDventures program is a partnership between certified teachers and families. The teachers and staff at EDventures work with an adult from the child's family to provide learning opportunities. The EDventures program provides curriculum, guidance, and some on-site and/or online enrichment activities. At home, a designated adult leads lessons, at least 4 days a week and about 3-5 hours a day. The family meets regularly with EDventures staff and each week they provide evidence of school work completed at home.
Decision Tree: Is EDventures
a good fit for our family?
To thrive in the EDventures program, it is important that:
- an adult works on lessons in the home with the student
- the student works on lessons, at least 4 days a week for 3-5 hours a day
- an adult checks the child's work regularly for understanding
- the family has either dependable internet access (not just cell phone access) OR dependable transportation to attend weekly meetings with the teacher
- an adult submits a completed Weekly Checklist EVERY WEEK
- an adult submits evidence of completed lessons in EVERY SUBJECT AREA along with the checklist
The EDventures program is NOT a good fit if:
- no adult is available to:
- work side-by-side with the child
- be at home with the child for lessons
- devote 4 days a week to lessons
- devote 3-5 hours a day to lessons
- no adult is able to prioritize helping their child learn
- BOTH transportation and internet access are unreliable for the family
- too many things prohibit communicating with the EDventures staff (no cell service, poor internet service, no reliable transportation, other commitments that prevent working on lessons, etc.)
- the family is not open to following common core and NGSS standards
- the family is not able to follow the EDventures schedule, which includes:
- meeting regularly with EDventures teacher
- turning in evidence weekly
- participating in any required zoom sessions/on-site services
- participating in required assessments
